Hong Kong gathered on Tuesday to hold celebrations in the name of the Chinese goddess Tin Hau, whose birthday falls on the 23rd day of the third month in the lunar calendar.

Tin Hau is the goddess of the sea — and as such is widely worshipped in Hong Kong, originally a fishing village.
