Spying concerns halt another Chinese company’s US expansion
The world’s largest mobile phone company by number of users has found itself all but shut out of the US. China Mobile, a Chinese government-owned company, has been blocked from operating in the US by a telecoms policy advisory body to President Trump. The advisory body, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, is part of the Department of Commerce. The agency on Monday cited “substantial and unacceptable national security and law enforcement risks” in recommending that the Federal Communications Commission not grant a license to China Mobile.
